From: Kevin Vose <kavose@wm.edu> Subject: Buddhism Issue of Religion Compass Date: February 28, 2008 8:45:10 PM CST Dear List Members, I bring to the list's attention a just-released "virtual issue" of Blackwell Publishing's Religion Compass that assembles all Buddhist Studies articles published in this on-line journal in its first year- plus. Religion Compass publishes "state-of-the-art surveys of current research" aimed at a non-specialist audience. In building the Buddhist Studies corner of the journal, we hope to provide scholars and students advanced introductions and useful bibliographies on a range of topics, from the introductory to the major controversies in the field. While Religion Compass is a subscription service, the Buddhism virtual issue is free and can be accessed at http://www.blackwell-synergy.com/toc/reco/2/v4 Below is the table of contents for the issue: Toward a "Wider and Juster Initiative": Recent Comparative Work in Buddhist Ethics Maria Heim Buddhism and Caste in India and Sri Lanka Jeffrey Samuels Yogacara Strategies against Realism: Appearances (akrti) and Metaphors (upacara) Jonathan C. Gold The Dalai Lamas and State Power Derek F. Maher Two Buddha Relic Traditions John S. Strong Buddhism, Politics, and Nationalism in the Twentieth and Twenty-first Centuries Thomas Borchert The Cakrasamvara Tantra: Its History, Interpretation, and Practice in India and Tibet David B. Gray The Paradox of Evil in Tiantai Buddhist Philosophy Jee Loo Liu Indian Buddhist Preachers Inside and Outside the Sutras Richard Nance With this free issue, Blackwell (of course) hopes to drum up more library subscriptions. We hope to raise awareness of the journal's utility in teaching and research and as a publishing venue. We welcome all comments and suggestions for future article topics, as well as proposals for articles. Sincerely, Justin McDaniel (justin.mcdaniel@ucr.edu) Kevin Vose (kavose@wm.edu) |
