H-ASIA February 5, 2008 RESOURCE: NEW PUBLICATION _Journal of Hinduism_ ************************************************************************ From: Knut Axel Jacobsen <Knut.Jacobsen@krr.uib.no> Dear colleagues, The publisher Brill will be releasing the first issue of the new Journal of Hinduism in Spring 2009. I want to invite you to submit articles for this new journal. It will be published twice a year. Here is some information about the journal: The Journal of Hinduism publishes original research from leading scholars on all aspects of the Hindu religious traditions, past and present. The journal favors both presentations of new material based on textual studies or fieldwork, as well as discussions of theoretical issues. Inter-disciplinary perspectives and comparative studies are highly welcome as important contributions to a journal which examines issues of the Hindu traditions within the fields of Anthropology/Sociology, Art History and Architecture, Indology, Law, Linguistic, Literary Studies, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, Religious Studies and Theology. The journal contributes to the development of Hindu studies by publishing on a variety of issues within the Hindu traditions such as the performative, narrative and intellectual traditions, historical developments, regional traditions, canon and texts, sacred geography, and contemporary issues such as feminism, nationalism, bioethics or human rights. Hinduism is not only a local, but also a global religion. Interactions with other religions both locally and globally are also a prime issue for the journal. The journal is interested in articles on the regional traditions as well as Hindu religious life in the many South Asian Diasporas and the emerging global Hindu discourses. The special feature of the journal is the unique way it mirrors the state of Hindu studies. Editor: Knut A. Jacobsen, University of Bergen, Norway Editorial Board: Francis X. General Matters of Style - The author may use British or American spelling, provided only one style is used throughout the manuscript. - For diacritics see the transliteration document appended here. - For transliteration the scheme used by the Transliteration Committee of the Geneva Oriental Congress (September, 1894) is used. - Sanskrit and other transliterated words are italicized (e.g. dharma, karma, yoga) and normally not capitalized, except when in inverted commas (e.g. "dharma"). - Foreign-language names of bodies, schools of thought, etc. are not italicized. - Titles of books, journals, encyclopedias are italicized. Collective bodies of literary works are not. - Titles of plays, titles of sculptures, works of art are italicized. Poem titles are enclosed in inverted commas, not italicized. Bibliographical References and Footnotes The major reference work is the Chicago Manual of Style (15th ed.). - A list of references cited must be supplied at the end of the manuscript, in the form of a bibliography. - When the bibliography lists several works by the same author, his or her name should not be repeated. - For works with more than one author, the names should always be listed in the order in which they appear on the title page. In the bibliography, only the first name is inverted. - Only the major and relevant place of publication should be listed. - When referencing inclusive page numbers, the second number is abbreviated to include only the changed part of the first number (e.g., 3-10; 107-8; 415-532).
