Philologica :: Description

Philologica provides machine readable texts and digital instruments for philological research.

It is intended that each text include:

  1.) a Text Encoding Initiative (TEI) version based on the best critical editions;
  2.) when appropriate, digital images of these editions correlated to the TEI version; and
  3.) a full text search, retrieval, and analysis system for the TEI version

Philologica uses a modified version of PhiloLogic™, a platform developed by the ARTFL Project and Digital Library Development Center at the University of Chicago. The author is grateful for advice he has received from one of the platform's developers Mark OLSEN.

The THESAURUS LITERATURAE BUDDHICAE (TLB) is a quadrilingual presentation of Buddhist literature sentence by sentence in Sanskrit, Chinese, Tibetan and English.

The texts can be accessed

1. sentence by sentence for continuous reading,
2. by searching the text records, being sentences, for words and phrases in any of the four languages Sanskrit, Chinese, Tibetan or English,
3. as continuous texts in Sanskrit. On how to access the Chinese or Tibetan materials as continuous texts, see the search instructions.
4. as images of original manuscript materials connected to the TLB texts, so far of the Vajracchedikā, see Vaj.
