Online Monier-Williams Sanskrit-English Lexicon: Cologne Sanskrit Dictionary Project, University of Cologne, Cologne, Germany

Self-description:

This HTML version of the 'Monier-Williams Sanskrit-English Dictionary' [1899, Oxford:Clarendon Press - ed.] stems from a text file of the Cologne Digital Sanskrit Lexicon (CDSL). The CDSL itself results from a project described in the 'Report on the Cologne Sanskrit Dictionary Project.'

This version is available through the generosity of Drs Thomas Malten (Universitaet zu Koeln) and Claude Setzer (Fairfield, Iowa). Dr Malten kindly allowed the lexicon to be made available in this form. Dr Setzer provided a CD-ROM of the lexicon without which this version could not have been made.

These files were produced by altering and removing markup in the original. It is hoped that this has resulted in HTML that is easy to scan. The lexicon still needs to be extensively tested. Please send all comments and corrections to Richard Mahoney : r.mahoney[use"@"]comnet.net.nz .

N.B. Each separate file is compressed with `gzip'. A collection of all of the files is available as a 'gzipped tarball' : mw_dict_all_current.tar.gz (7238k). For installation instructions consult the README.
